IMG_20130812_175215_resizedOur staff is the reason we continue to be successful, and we want to make sure you all get to know them well. Today’s blog post is dedicated to Leigh Anne Brewer, better known to us as LaLa, who is a driving force behind our success at Huey’s!

Leigh Anne has been working at Huey’s for 8 years. She started in April 2006, and we have loved her ever since. You may recognize her face from Huey’s Poplar, where she is a server, bartender, and server trainer. She also sometimes works as a sub at our Midtown location, which she calls her “second Huey’s family”.

Leigh Anne is always a a joy to be around, with her bright smile, fun personality, and witty humor. She is a role model in her dedication to our community and willingness to help out whenever she is needed. She is loyal, dedicated, and reliable both at work and in her relationships with friends and family.

Along with working for Huey’s, Leigh Anne is also one of our first employees to jump at the chance to volunteer for events with us. Since she has participated in many community events with Huey’s, including Rock For Love (Church Health Center), Zoo Rendezvous (Memphis Zoo), Bet Against Breast Cancer (Wings Cancer Foundation), Dragon Boat Races (Tennessee Clean Water Network), Steak and Burger Night (Boys and Girls Club), Polar Bear Plunge (Special Olympics), Relay for Life (American Cancer Society), and the Greenline Opening Party (Shelby Park Farms Conservancy).

Not only does Leigh Anne volunteer with Huey’s, but she has done some additional exciting volunteer work on her own as well. She assisted in building a school in Quito, Ecuador and also worked with Wolf River Conservancy.

Leigh Anne has a degree in Sports and Leisure Studies, with a concentration in Leisure Management (aka Parks and Recreation at some schools). Leigh Anne has a passion for nature and the great outdoors. As soon as she graduated, she began working with National Park Services as a wilderness ranger at Yosemite National Park in California. She has also headed up the nature center at Camp War Eagle in Rogers, AR.

Her education and experience in Parks and Recreation have also led to her love for travel. She has traveled to 8 countries outside of the United States so far, including spending 6 months in Scotland as a nanny. Her time in Scotland proved that she can do just about anything, and she wants to do it all! Ideally, she would love to have Samantha Brown’s job: traveling the world, finding adventure, and sharing her experiences, with her dog Xena by her side.

Outside of work and volunteering, Leigh Anne loves spending time with her friends. As she puts it, “My friends are my hobby! I love to be with people, laughing and growing in friendship.” She loves to camp and hike, with her sweet dog by her side, and make jewelry on occasion. She wants to learn how to cook and is working on her skills.

If you could summarize her in one phrase, you could quote her saying, “I enjoy a challenge. Give me a goal, and I’ll do my best to see it to fruition!”

If you’re looking for something new to try on the Huey’s menu, her favorite item is the Bluff City Burger, with a beef or black bean patty.
