In July 2001, Mike Maher left his job at a national restaurant chain to come to Huey’s. Within just two years he was promoted to Kitchen Manager. Mike says he’ll never work for another restaurant because it just couldn’t compare.
He’s worked at a few of the stores over the years, and even helped open Huey’s Southwind, but Southaven has always been his home base.
Being the truly humble person he is, Mike credits longtime owner Thomas Boggs and his daughter Lauren for his success over the years.
“There have been a lot of people who have helped over the years, but I have to give a special shout out to Lauren and Thomas Boggs for giving me my first break and believing in me. The opportunity to let me grow in the company has helped me become the person I am today.”
When asked what’s kept him at Huey’s all these years, he had one thing to say: “the Boggs family.” Mike noted he has a great relationship with each of them and can always talk to them about anything, which proved true in one of his darkest times.
Six years ago, Mike and his wife were faced with the death of his daughter Tina. Following the tragedy, Mike and his family were uplifted by everyone at Huey’s, especially the Boggs family. “They know me personally. They knew my daughter personally. It’s the best company I’ve ever worked for.”
Mike says he likes to keep things light and upbeat with his staff and admits he’s a bit of a practical joker.
“Of all times, now is especially important to have fun and make sure people know they’re appreciated. At the end of the day, it’s just burgers and fries, so you might as well put some fun into it!”
When he’s not at work, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife of 36 years, riding four-wheelers and hanging out with his four beautiful grandchildren.
Congratulations to our dear friend Mike on this milestone achievement! We’re so grateful for all you’ve done over the years!
