For 10 years, Alex Coker has been a devoted member of the Huey’s Poplar team. Her humor, warmth and magnetic personality are an absolute joy for anyone around her. In her spare time, you can find Alex and her husband camping, hiking, listening to live music and, most importantly, taking care of their sweet baby Caden.
Alex admits that when she first joined the Huey’s Poplar team, she was a little intimidated seeing all the veteran staff. Now she’s become a Huey’s veteran herself and has met some of her best friends working here.
As a server and bartender, it’s no surprise that one of Alex’s favorite things about her job is getting to spend time with her regular customers. Many of her regulars have become like family over the years – some even gifted her children’s books when she was pregnant with her son.
“It’s a joy coming to work and getting to spend time with people you care for, and it’s so special to know it means just as much to them,” Alex said.
Working at Huey’s has also reinforced a number of valuable life lessons for Alex – patience most importantly, especially for a new mom! She jokes that her role has also shown her that you can’t judge a book, or customer, by their cover. Alex has also learned the value of teamwork and leadership.
“I feel truly valued and am so appreciative of everything our leadership has done throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” Alex said. “They’re so supportive of the staff, and the fact that no one lost their job due to the pandemic speaks volumes to that.”
